To Our Readers

In this issue we feature the research of seven junior faculty members from a wide range of academic disciplines. These young scholars are making significant and exciting discoveries, developing new tools, and pushing the frontiers of their respective fields. For all of them, the University of Virginia has turned out to be a stimulating environment for their professional development. In some cases it is a strong department; in others, a network of colleagues from other departments; in still others, it is the close proximity of a national laboratory or the opportunity to compete for support through our junior faculty Fund for Excellence in Science and Technology (FEST) program. Young investigators such as these represent the future of research at the University. We’re confident that you’ll be hearing about them again.
